SC Freiburg 1-2 Bayern Munich: Bayern edge hosts to extend Bundesliga lead

Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Freiburg on Saturday, with goals from Harry Kane and Kim Min-jae propelling them six points clear at the top of the table.
The win marked Bayern’s fourth consecutive league victory this year, lifting them to 48 points. Their nearest rivals, Bayer Leverkusen, dropped points after squandering a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at RB Leipzig.
Bayern entered the match looking to bounce back after Wednesday’s shocking 3-0 Champions League defeat to Feyenoord, which jeopardized their automatic qualification for the round of 16.
"I knew this game would not be easy, so what happened here today was not strange," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said in his post-match press conference. "We knew we would have to fight."
"Overall, it was a tough week with three games for us. We came here with the right mentality. Maybe it was not our prettiest game, but it was a good win because this Freiburg team at home is very tough to beat. We can’t change the story in Rotterdam, but we could influence the story today, and that was our only focus."
Bayern began strongly, with Jamal Musiala striking the post early on. Kane opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a brilliant turn on the edge of the box and a clinical low drive for his 17th goal of the season. The goal was a historic moment, as it marked the first time two Englishmen—Kane and Eric Dier—combined for a Bundesliga goal since records began in 2004-05.
Kim Min-jae doubled Bayern’s lead nine minutes into the second half, heading in a corner at the near post. Despite their two-goal cushion, the Bavarians eased off, allowing Freiburg back into the match.
Matthias Ginter pulled one back for Freiburg in the 68th minute with a well-taken header, sparking a wave of attacks from the hosts. However, Freiburg, now on a three-match league losing streak, failed to find an equalizer and slipped to ninth in the standings.
Bayern remain firmly in control of the Bundesliga title race, with Kompany emphasizing the importance of resilience: "There is no success or titles without such moments."
