Sebastian Vettel would be great for Mercedes, says Lewis Hamilton

On Thursday, Lewis Hamilton expressed his belief that Sebastian Vettel, the retired four-times Formula 1 world champion, would be an exceptional choice for Mercedes as they seek to find a replacement for the British driver's seat in the upcoming season.

Vettel expressed his potential interest in making a comeback in 2025 and has been in discussions with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff and other individuals, as he revealed in an interview with Sky Sports television.

In response to Vettel's statement, Lewis Hamilton, who will be joining Ferrari next season, expressed his enthusiasm for the idea of Vettel returning to Formula One and considered him as an excellent option for the team.

Hamilton believes that Vettel's racing experience and values align well with the German manufacturer, and his presence would contribute to the team's efforts in reviving their previous success, which included seven consecutive drivers' championships from 2014 to 2020.

It is worth noting that Mercedes had their last German driver, Nico Rosberg, who retired after winning the 2016 world championship.

Hamilton has previously regarded Vettel as his favorite rival in Formula One throughout the years, and Vettel finished as the runner-up to Hamilton in 2017 and 2018 before retiring at the end of 2022.

Recently, Vettel had the opportunity to test a Porsche Penske Le Mans hypercar and may potentially make his debut in the 24-hour race. Hamilton's teammate at Mercedes,

George Russell, also expressed his support for Vettel's return to the track, emphasizing the positive impact of his personality and the importance of having the best drivers competing for victories and championships.

Russell stated that he is open to having any teammate, whether they are a world champion or a rookie, as it does not affect his approach to his own performance.
