Sevilla 1-4 Barcelona: 10-man Barca cruise past hosts to close in on league leaders

Barcelona faced a challenging match, competing for over 30 minutes with only ten players. Nevertheless, Hansi Flick’s team secured their ninth victory in eleven matches with an impressive 3-1 win against Sevilla, reinvigorating their pursuit of the LaLiga title.
Following a 1-1 draw in the Madrid derby the previous night, Barça recognized the necessity of a win to take advantage of the top two teams dropping points. The visitors made their intentions clear by taking the lead within the first seven minutes.
A well-executed corner routine resulted in Raphinha delivering a precise ball into the box, which Iñigo Martínez headed towards Robert Lewandowski, who finished with a simple tap-in.
However, Barcelona's difficulties in maintaining clean sheets away from home in LaLiga this season resurfaced almost immediately, as Sevilla equalized just a minute later, marking the Blaugrana's sixth consecutive league match without an away shutout.
From the kick-off, the Rojiblancos penetrated the visitors' defense effortlessly, with Saúl advancing on goal and passing to Rubén Vargas, who scored.
After this rapid start, both teams had opportunities to increase their tallies throughout the first half. Raphinha had a long-range effort saved, shortly before Jules Koundé shot over from the edge of the area.
Lamine Yamal had a relatively quiet night but managed to have a shot saved at the near post. Sevilla also had a chance to take the lead before halftime, with Dodi Lukebakio's overhead kick being expertly denied by Wojciech Szczęsny.
The second half began similarly to the first, with Barça scoring within a minute of the restart. Following a swift passing sequence, Pedri delivered a ball into the box for Fermín López to head in.
Barça, failing to learn from their earlier mistakes in the first half, conceded again just a minute later; however, they were fortunate as the linesman raised his flag for offside. Sevilla once more penetrated the defense with ease, as Isaac Romero delivered a pass to the far post for Vargas to score, but the Swiss international was thwarted from securing a second goal.
This missed opportunity would later prove detrimental, as Flick’s squad scored a third goal in the 55th minute, courtesy of Raphinha, who struck powerfully from the edge of the box, marking his 24th goal of the season and solidifying his status as arguably the team's standout player.
While enjoying a comfortable two-goal lead, the visitors faced a setback when López fouled Djibril Sow, resulting in a yellow card that was subsequently escalated to a red card after a protracted VAR review.
Despite having the numerical advantage, Sevilla could not take advantage, as the Blaugrana extended their lead with a fourth goal late in the match, scored by Eric García with a header. This victory brings Barça within one point of second-placed Atlético Madrid and two points behind leaders Real Madrid.
Consequently, Sevilla's unbeaten streak of four matches has come to an end, leaving García Pimienta’s team in 13th place.
