Simeone acknowledges challenges teams face under new Champions League format

Atletico Madrid's coach, Diego Simeone, remarked on the challenges posed by the new Champions League format ahead of his team's match against Czech champions Sparta Prague on Tuesday.
The revamped competition now features 36 teams in a league structure, where each club competes against eight different opponents, moving away from the previous group stage format that included three home and away matches.
The top eight teams will automatically advance to the knockout stage, while the next 16 will enter a two-legged playoff for a chance to join them.
"Based on the results and the dynamics of the matches, it is evident that this format encourages greater focus from all teams," Simeone stated during a press conference on Monday.
"Once we progress beyond this initial phase, we will have a more comprehensive understanding of our perspectives on it."
"There has always been pressure to secure victories. This has not changed, but now we are in a league where every team competes against one another, making it challenging for all."
Atletico appears to be adapting to this new structure, currently holding two wins and two losses, placing them 23rd in the standings, just within the playoff spots.
In their most recent match, they rallied from a goal down to secure a 2-1 victory against Paris Saint-Germain, thanks to a last-minute goal from Angel Correa.
"The Champions League demands the utmost from its participants. It compels you to achieve success," Simeone noted, having recently celebrated his 700th match as Atletico's coach.
Their opponents, Sparta Prague, currently sit fourth in the Czech First League and have managed only one victory in their four Champions League encounters, struggling with six losses in their last seven matches across all competitions.
"They are formidable opponents, particularly at home where they play with great intensity," Simeone added. "I envision no other scenario than to approach this match with the intent to exploit any weaknesses."
"It is common for all teams to exhibit intensity and strength at home, especially at the beginning of matches, as they are supported by their fans. We must adjust to the pace of the game from the outset. Being away from home, we anticipate a strong push from our opponents."
