Simone Biles Wins 20th World Title Leading US Women to Team Gold

Simone Biles clinched her 20th world championship title as she guided the United States to their seventh consecutive women's team gold at the world gymnastics championships in Antwerp.

This victory extended the USA's dominant streak, which dates back to 2011, making them the reigning champions in the absence of Russia, the last team to beat them in a major competition.

Biles expressed her pride in the team, stating, "It's crazy, we still pulled it out, I'm really proud of the team." She continued, "It's the seventh title in a row for the United States. For some girls, it's their first World Championship, and I'm excited to share that with them."

The American team scored 167.729 points, securing the gold medal, with Brazil taking silver (165.530), and Olympic hosts France claiming bronze (164.064). Biles' teammate Shilese Jones praised her leadership, saying, "She's the leader, having someone so inspiring and so encouraging… Team USA came together and we did what we needed to do tonight."

This victory marked Biles' 26th world medal and her record-extending 20th world title. Biles remains in contention for five other podiums in Antwerp.

Simone Biles made an impressive comeback after a two-year break following the Tokyo Olympics. Her return to form is remarkable, given her struggles during the Tokyo Games, where she withdrew from four of the five finals due to a condition known as the "twisties," which can endanger gymnasts when they lose their spatial awareness mid-air.

Reflecting on her latest title, Biles commented, "I think each and every time you are crowned world champion, it feels a little bit different. I'm still surprised; I'm 26, I'm a little bit older, so it feels just as good as the first one just because we broke records, we came together, we had a fight. It's different but exciting."

Biles noted the challenges of maintaining her elite status in gymnastics as she gets older, saying, "I'm not 16 anymore, I'm 26, like everything feels different. I'm thinking a little bit more about my gymnastics. It's not so carefree. Staying at the top and pushing day in, day out is a bit harder because I'm older, my body is tired."

Despite these challenges, Biles delivered a stellar performance in Antwerp, even without executing her signature Yurchenko double pike. Her Cheng vault, along with her strong floor exercise, contributed to the American team's victory.

In addition to Biles, Shilese Jones, Leanne Wong, and Skye Blakely played crucial roles in securing the gold medal for the United States, resisting Brazil's comeback attempt. Unfortunately, Joscelyn Roberson, another member of the American team, was injured in the vault warm-up and couldn't compete.

Brazil's reigning all-around world champion, Rebeca Andrade, displayed an impressive performance on the floor, scoring 14.666. France's surprising bronze medal was largely attributed to Melanie De Jesus Dos Santos, Biles' training partner in the United States.
