Simone Biles wins women's vault gold to claim 10th career Olympic medal

Simone Biles showcased an impressive performance during her second attempt. She sprinted down the runway and executed the Cheng vault, which involves a round-off, half-on entry with a one-and-a-half twisting flip to conclude. Her score was 14.900.

With an average of 15.300 points, she comfortably secured victory at the Bercy Arena.

After confirming her top position in the eight-woman final, a jubilant Biles flashed a wide smile and embraced Carey.

Expressing her excitement, Biles stated, "I am thrilled with my performance, I executed my vaults successfully, so I am extremely proud of the hard work I have dedicated to reach this stage," in an interview with Eurosport.

Despite finishing second in the all-around final, Andrade once again found herself playing second fiddle to Biles.

"I appreciate the competition from my fellow athletes that motivates me to strive for excellence. We are all competing at our highest level, which challenges me," added the champion, who now boasts an impressive tally of 40 Olympic and world medals.

Arriving in Paris as the most decorated gymnast globally, Biles has continued her winning streak by securing gold medals in all three women's events held in Paris so far. She now possesses a total of 10 Olympic medals, seven of which are gold.

Leading the U.S. team to victory in the team final and claiming a second all-around Olympic title two days ago, Biles' influence extends beyond gymnastics. Her decision to withdraw from the Tokyo Games due to mental health concerns sparked a crucial conversation.

Struggling with the 'twisties,' a mental block experienced by gymnasts during complex routines, Biles took a two-year hiatus from the sport.

Now that she has returned, she has reestablished herself as the leading figure in gymnastics.

"I attend therapy sessions every week, which greatly assists me in managing my mental health. I plan to resume my sessions once I return home as it is a crucial component of my daily routine," she expressed.

Biles also commended Carey, who redeemed herself after finishing last in the Tokyo vault final by securing the bronze medal on Saturday.

"It was a fantastic day for both Jade and me. We are looking forward to it, so I am certain we will indulge in some delicious food to celebrate," Biles remarked.

Biles will have the opportunity to increase her medal count further when she participates in the balance beam and women's floor finals on Monday.
