Sinner defeats Djokovic in 3-set thriller, ends 19-match winning streak

Novak Djokovic's 19-match winning streak came to an end on Tuesday when home favourite Jannik Sinner roared to a superb 7-5 6-7(5) 7-6(2) victory in front of a partisan ATP Finals crowd.

The earlier Green Group match was a non-event due to Stefanos Tsitsipas' injury against Holger Rune, but the evening ticket holders were treated to a match of breathtaking quality.

After more than three hours of riveting back-and-forth, it was world number four Sinner who took advantage of his chance in the deciding set tiebreak to finally break Djokovic's resistance.

Sinner, who is 14 years Djokovic's junior, won his first career match against the 24-time Grand Slam champion with a smash, eliciting deafening applause from the sold-out crowd.

He moves to the top of the group, but a semi-final spot is not yet guaranteed ahead of his final round-robin match against Rune on Thursday.
