Sinner holds off Berrettini to reach third round at Wimbledon

Jannik Sinner, overcame a challenging match against Matteo Berrettini on Centre Court at Wimbledon to secure his spot in the third round.

Sinner won the first two sets in tiebreaks but faced a strong comeback from Berrettini in the third set. Despite some setbacks, Sinner managed to regain control and ultimately triumphed 7-6(3), 7-6(4), 2-6, 7-6(4).

Berrettini, a former finalist who has struggled with injuries and is now ranked 59th, displayed powerful tennis that threatened to extend the match. Sinner faced a tough moment when he fell behind in the fourth set, but he rallied and eventually sealed the victory.

Despite Berrettini saving a match point, Sinner remained composed and secured the win just before the tournament's curfew. Sinner acknowledged the difficulty of facing Berrettini in such a crucial match and expressed his respect for his opponent after the game.

Today's match was intense, and we both performed admirably. I managed to secure a bit of luck in the three tiebreaks. I was aware that I needed to elevate my performance today, especially since my opponent excels on grass courts.

While there were some fluctuations in my performance, it's all part of the game. I'm pleased to advance to the next round.

Sinner, who has now defeated 14 fellow Italians, will strive to claim the Wimbledon title after winning this year's Australian Open when he faces Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic on Friday.
