Sinner seeks fresh start in Miami after Indian Wells loss

This season marks the first time Jannik Sinner enters a tournament with the goal of beginning anew.

The Italian expressed that the Miami Open presents a fresh chance for him to bounce back after his defeat in the semi-finals against his rival Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner has had a remarkable start to his campaign with an impressive 16-match winning streak, including winning his first grand slam title at the Australian Open.

In his pre-tournament press conference, Sinner stated, "Each week brings new opportunities, and I am excited to see what lies ahead.

" He acknowledged the loss and emphasized that it is merely a match that he cannot change. However, he views every tournament as a new opportunity to showcase his strong tennis skills.

Sinner anticipated that he would experience a loss at some point but is satisfied that it occurred in the later stages of the tournament, considering it a significant achievement to reach the semi-finals in a Masters 1000 event. He remains optimistic about what the future holds.

In 2021, at the age of 19, Sinner made history by becoming the first Italian finalist in the tournament. He repeated this feat in 2023.

Seeded second at a Masters event for the first time, Sinner is on the opposite side of the draw from top seed Alcaraz. There is already excitement surrounding the possibility of a rematch between Sinner and Alcaraz.

Following a first-round bye, Sinner will face fellow Italian Andrea Vavassori, while Alcaraz, a two-time Grand Slam champion, will play against Aleksandar Vukic or Roberto Carballes Baena as he aims to achieve the 'Sunshine Double' after his victory at Indian Wells.

Alcaraz and Sinner, the youngest pair of top seeds at a Masters 1000 tournament since Nadal and Roddick in 2005, have a rivalry that is anticipated to become one of the most entertaining in the sport.

Their distinct temperaments - the calm Italian and the passionate Spaniard - add an extra layer of excitement to their matches, reminiscent of the Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe era.

Sinner expressed his enjoyment of the rivalry, stating that he hopes it has just begun as his opponent is an incredible player.

Outside of the court, they do not communicate much due to their separate priorities. Sinner acknowledged his opponent's strong display of emotions and fighting spirit, contrasting it with his own more reserved demeanor.

Despite this difference, Sinner mentioned that he is always pleased when competing against his rival.
