Spain ease past Greece, as Canada stun Australia

Spain successfully navigated a challenging encounter to secure a victory over Greece with a score of 84-77, while Canada delivered a surprising performance against Australia, winning 93-83 in the second round of men's basketball Group A at the Pierre Mauroy stadium on Tuesday.

Greek player Giannis Antetokounmpo showcased his NBA prowess, contributing 27 points along with 11 rebounds and three assists as a small forward for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Nevertheless, he was met with formidable competition from Spain's guard Sergio Llull, who, alongside first-time Olympian and Memphis Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama, combined for a total of 32 points in the game.

"We maintained a strong belief despite the fluctuations in the score. Naturally, we experienced some minor slumps.

However, overall, we managed to control the rebounds, which had been a weakness in our previous matches," remarked Spain's coach Sergio Scariolo.

Canada rose to the occasion, challenging the third-ranked Australia, who trailed the North Americans throughout the contest but could not match their pace.

Australian point guard Josh Giddey led his team with 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

However, Canada's exceptional shooting, bolstered by the contributions of RJ Barrett and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, resulted in a combined total of 40 points.

Later on, Tuesday, the host nation France will compete against Japan, while Germany will face Brazil in Group B.
