Spain stun Denmark to reach Davis Cup Final 8 as United States crash out

The 2025 Davis Cup delivered high drama this weekend, with Spain producing a historic fightback against Denmark to book their place in the Final 8 in November. Meanwhile, Czechia shocked the United States in Florida, eliminating Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, and their teammates despite a strong start from the home side.
Spain’s historic comeback in Marbella
Playing without injured star Carlos Alcaraz, Spain looked in serious trouble after losing the first two rubbers against Denmark. To make matters worse, the hosts dropped the first set in doubles. But Jaume Munar and Pedro Martínez turned the tie on its head with a gritty 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over August Holmgren and Johannes Ingildsen to keep Spain alive.
The pressure then shifted to Martínez in singles, who faced a match point against world No. 13 Holger Rune. Showing remarkable composure, Martínez saved it and went on to claim a 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (3) win that leveled the tie at 2-2.
Veteran Pablo Carreño Busta sealed the comeback in style, beating Elmer Møller 6-2, 6-3 to complete Spain’s first-ever recovery from 2-0 down in Davis Cup history. The result sparked celebrations in Marbella and confirmed Spain’s place in the Final 8.
Australia fall short against Belgium
Elsewhere, Australia attempted a similar comeback against Belgium but fell just short. After losing the opening singles, Alex de Minaur brought the tie back to life with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Zizou Bergs, following a tight doubles triumph from Rinky Hijikata and Jordan Thompson over Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen (6-7, 6-3, 6-4).
But Belgian outsider Raphaël Collignon, ranked 91st in the world, proved the difference. A day after stunning De Minaur, he outlasted Aleksandar Vukic 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3 in the decisive match to send Belgium through.
Czechia stuns the United States in Florida
The United States, heavily favored on home soil, saw their Davis Cup campaign unravel against Czechia. After Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek edged the doubles 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-4 to give Team USA a 2-1 lead, Czechia responded with back-to-back wins in singles.
Jiri Lehecka toppled world No. 5 Taylor Fritz 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 before teenager Jakub Mensik dominated Frances Tiafoe 6-1, 6-4, securing the upset and eliminating the Americans.

Alongside Spain, Belgium, and Czechia, Argentina, Austria, and France advanced with wins over the Netherlands, Hungary, and Croatia. Germany had already secured qualification, while two-time defending champions Italy are guaranteed a spot as hosts.
