Spanish superstars Nadal, Alcaraz cautious on Olympic doubles medal prospects

Despite this, they have pledged to put in maximum effort to overcome their lack of preparation.

The 2008 singles gold medalist, Nadal, will be teaming up with Alcaraz in a tennis duo at Roland Garros. They aim to replicate the success of Nadal's doubles title with Marc Lopez at Rio in 2016.

As they join forces for the first time, the 22-time Grand Slam champion emphasized the need to manage expectations.

Nadal stated, "While I understand the excitement and anticipation of seeing us play together, we should not assume that this will automatically lead to victory.

Carlos has limited experience in doubles, and I have not played much in either singles or doubles."

These remarks were made during a press conference held by the Spanish team at the Olympic Village.

Both Nadal and Alcaraz are set to compete in the singles at Roland Garros, where Nadal holds the record for winning the French Open 14 times. Alcaraz clinched his first title in Paris just last month.

Nadal expressed his confidence in Alcaraz's current form, stating, "We believe in the exceptional moment that Carlos is experiencing." Alcaraz recently secured his fourth Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, becoming the youngest player at 21 to do so.

Nadal further mentioned, "We will give our best effort to strive for success and, at the very least, depart with the satisfaction of having given our all." Alcaraz, on the other hand, described his Olympic debut in doubles with Nadal as "a dream come true."

Despite their star power, Alcaraz emphasized that a medal is not guaranteed, saying, "We will give our utmost... with great enthusiasm, hoping to enjoy the experience and perform well." He notably defeated Novak Djokovic in this year's Wimbledon final.

Djokovic, who previously won singles bronze in 2008, will also be present in Paris for the Olympic tennis tournament, which will be played on clay for the first time since Barcelona in 1992.
