Spring training roundup: Niko Goodrum, Twins rally past Braves

Yoyner Fajardo hit a game-tying two-run single in the sixth inning, Niko Goodrum broke the tie the next inning, and the Minnesota Twins scored five unanswered runs to defeat the Atlanta Braves 9-6 in their spring training finale Tuesday in Fort Myers, Florida.

Goodrum singled in Brian O'Keefe in the seventh, and O'Keefe doubled home two runs in the eighth for the Twins. Braves reliever Jake McSteen (0-1) blew the save in the sixth, allowing three crucial runs on five hits in two innings.

The Twins led 4-0 after Matt Wallner's two-run homer, but the Braves rallied with six straight runs, including home runs by Jarred Kelenic and Orlando Arcia.

Jeff Brigham (1-2) pitched two scoreless innings of relief for Minnesota, striking out five and allowing just one hit.

Tigers 3 - 3 Rays

Carson Williams scored the game-tying run on Brendan White's wild pitch as host Tampa Bay tied Detroit in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Chris Meyers hit a three-run home run in the top of the eighth to give the Tigers the lead before White's gaffe in the bottom half. Casey Mize, the Tigers starter, threw six strikeouts and allowed one run on two hits over five innings.

Yandy Diaz and Brandon Lowe hit solo home runs for the Rays, who got six innings of two-hit ball and eight strikeouts from starter Ryan Pepiot.

Red Sox 4 - 1 Rangers

Rafael Devers and Mark Contreras homered as visiting Boston defeated Texas in Arlington, Texas.

Contreras and Masataka Yoshida each went 2-for-2 at the plate, with Ceddanne Rafaela and Jamie Westbrook adding the other RBIs for the Red Sox. Starter Richard Fitts (1-0) threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and three strikes.

Jared Walsh had an RBI single, and Marcus Semien and Wyatt Langford each had two hits for the Rangers. In 3 1/3 innings, starter Dane Dunning (2-2) allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out two.

Cardinals 7 - 2 Cubs

Ivan Herrera went 2-for-2 with a solo shot and two runs to help St. Louis pull away from host Chicago in Mesa, Arizona.

Brendan Donovan had an RBI double in the second inning and scored on an error by Cubs starter Shota Imanaga (2-2), while three other Cardinals also had RBIs. Kyle Gibson (1-2) struck out nine batters and allowed one run on four hits over five innings.

Imanaga allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk in three innings, striking out six. Mike Tauchman and Christian Franklin hit solo home runs, accounting for the Cubs' only runs.

Rockies 6 - 1 Brewers

Jameson Hannah hit two run-scoring singles, Nolan Jones added two RBIs, and host Colorado defeated Milwaukee in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar had an RBI double and a run, and starter Ryan Feltner (1-0) struck out six while scattering four hits and a walk over four scoreless innings. Jake Cave and Michael Toglia contributed two hits each to Colorado's 14-hit attack.

Brewers starter Aaron Ashby (0-1) allowed five runs (four earned) on ten hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings, striking out four. Carlos Rodriguez went 3-for-3, and Ernesto Martinez scored the Brewers' only run on a sacrifice fly.

Diamondbacks 6 - 1 Guardians

Brandon Pfaadt pitched five shutout innings, and Blaze Alexander hit a two-run homer to help Arizona defeat Cleveland in Phoenix.

Pfaadt (1-1) allowed one run on three hits and no walks, while striking out four. Wilderd Patino had two hits for the Diamondbacks.

Guardians' starter, Triston McKenzie (1-2), struck out seven in six innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks.

Mariners 7 - 6 Padres

RJ Schreck hit a game-tying single in the ninth inning, and Seattle scored two runs on a throwing error by shortstop Leodalis De Vries to win at San Diego.

Schreck and Alex Sanchez both had two hits for the Mariners. Seattle starter Casey Lawrence pitched five innings of two-run ball.

Jose Azocar was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for the Padres. Julio Rodriguez and Dylan Moore each hit home runs off San Diego starter Michael King.

Athletics 3 - 1 Giants

Paul Blackburn finished his strong spring with 5 2/3 scoreless innings, leading Oakland to a win over San Francisco.

Blackburn (4-0) allowed two hits and no walks, striking out six. He finished the spring with a 2.04 ERA. Oakland did not have a run-scoring hit, relying instead on an RBI groundout and two sacrifice flies.

Wilmer Flores had two hits, and Joey Bart drove in a run in the ninth inning for the Giants.

Angels 4 - 3 Dodgers

The Los Angeles Angels defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 in Anaheim, Calif., thanks to Zach Neto's triple in the ninth inning and Jack Lopez's walk-off single.

Angels starter Chase Silseth pitched five innings of two-run ball, striking out 10 and walking none. He allowed only two hits, both solo homers by Freddie Freeman and Will Smith.

Dodgers' designated hitter, Shohei Ohtani, struck out in both of his at-bats. Dodgers' Gavin Lux also homered, and the Angels' Miguel Sano did as well.
