Spurs comeback from 20-pt deficit to defeat the Suns 115-114

Keldon Johnson stole the ball from Kevin Durant and scored on a breakaway dunk with 1.2 seconds left to help the San Antonio Spurs beat the Phoenix Suns 115-114 on Tuesday in the first of a two-game series between the teams over a three-day period.

The teams will also meet in Phoenix on Thursday.

Phoenix took a 22-12 lead at the 3:16 mark of the first quarter on a putback layup by Watanabe and led 27-18 at the end of the quarter. The Suns' lead grew to 19 points in the second quarter when Gordon hit a floater with 7:10 remaining before halftime, and they led 63-45 at the break.

The Suns led by 13 points entering the fourth quarter. With 49 seconds remaining, a jumper by rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama cut San Antonio's deficit to 114-111.

With 6.1 seconds left, Wembanyama crashed the boards for an offensive rebound and a putback dunk. The Suns inbounded the ball to Durant in the corner, who was double-teamed before Johnson stole the ball and drove to the basket for the game-winning dunk.

Durant then missed a 10-foot fadeaway jumper at the buzzer, which would have given the Suns the victory.

Johnson led the Spurs with 27 points, while Wembanyama and Devin Vassell each contributed 18. Zach Collins had 14 points and Tre Jones had 10 as San Antonio won for the first time on the road.

The Suns were led by Durant's 26 points, Eric Gordon's 20, and Grayson Allen's 19. Jusuf Nurkic had 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Josh Okogie and Yuta Watanabe each had 11 points.

Durant's late dunk put him over 27,000 points for his career.

The Suns were without star guard Devin Booker (ankle) for the third straight game, as well as newly acquired forward Bradley Beal, who has been dealing with lower back pain and has not played this season.
