Spurs defeat Lakers 129-115 to snap 18-game losing streak

The Spurs put an end to their longest losing streak in franchise history just two days after their defeat to the Lakers, in which LeBron James did not play. Devin Vassell had an outstanding performance, scoring a career-high 36 points for San Antonio.

Additionally, seven Spurs players, including Wembanyama, scored in double figures.

Wembanyama, who has drawn comparisons to James when he entered the league 20 years ago, contributed 13 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, two blocked shots, and two steals. This marked his fifth game of the season with multiple blocks and steals.

On the other hand, James, the four-time NBA champion, scored 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out 14 assists. However, the Lakers were without Anthony Davis, D'Angelo Russell, and Cam Reddish, which resulted in them trailing the Spurs throughout the game.

Although James had an impressive steal and dunk early on, the Spurs dominated the first half, leading by as much as 25 points.

Despite the Lakers' efforts to reduce the deficit before halftime, including James's remarkable three-pointer over Wembanyama, the Spurs maintained their lead. In the third quarter, the Spurs outscored the Lakers 29-25, entering the final quarter with a 98-87 advantage.

The Lakers eventually substituted their starters in the fourth quarter, allowing the young Spurs team to secure their first victory since November.

Wembanyama praised Vassell's shooting performance, which helped maintain the lead against the Lakers.

James acknowledged that the Lakers were hindered by multiple injuries and credited the Spurs for their excellent performance, stating that they shot the ball exceptionally well and attacked the Lakers effectively.
