Stephen Curry becomes first NBA player to hit 4,000 three-pointers

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry made NBA history on Thursday night, becoming the first player everto reach 4,000 career three-pointers in a game against the Sacramento Kings.

Curry entered the game needing just two three-pointers to achieve this incredible milestone, further cementing his legacy as the greatest shooter in basketball history. The Warriors' sharpshooter, who turns 37 on Friday, has single-handedly revolutionized three-point shooting over his 16-year career.

How Curry Reached 4,000 Three-Pointers

Curry鈥檚 first three-pointer of the night came late in the first quarter, a 26-foot jumper that brought his total to 3,999. After a quiet first half, he made history in the third quarter, sinking a 27-foot shot to bring his career tally to 4,000, sending Chase Center into a frenzy.

A Record No One Thought Possible

Before Curry鈥檚 dominance, the NBA three-point record was considered untouchable.
馃弨 2005:Reggie Miller held the record with 2,560 threes.
馃弨 2011:Ray Allen surpassed Miller, finishing his career with 2,973 threes.
馃弨 2021:Curry broke Allen鈥檚 record and later became the first to hit 3,000 threes.
馃弨 2024: Now, Curry is in a league of his own with 4,000 three-pointers.

Only one other active player, James Harden, has surpassed 3,000 threes (3,127 and counting).

Steve Kerr: "4,000 is an insane number"

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the magnitude of Curry鈥檚 feat.
"I am desensitized to the three because they just come flooding through, game after game," Kerr said. "Four thousand is just an insane number, but it just seems kind of natural."

Could Curry reach 5,000?

With his contract running through 2026-27, Curry hasn鈥檛 ruled out playing beyond that. "I don't know," he said in a recent interview. "I'd like to outplay that, for sure. How long that goes? I have no idea."

With Curry still at the top of his game, could 5,000 threes be next?
