Stephen Curry named the NBA’s Clutch Player of the Year

Stephen Curry, the renowned player from the Golden State Warriors, has been named the recipient of the NBA Clutch Player of the Year Award, as announced by the league on Thursday.

This prestigious award, which was introduced last year and previously won by De'Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings, recognizes the player who consistently delivers for their team in crucial moments.

Curry emerged victorious over DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls to claim this honor. The media voting panel awarded Curry with 45 first-place votes (equivalent to five points each), 18 second-place votes (three points), and 19 third-place votes (one point), accumulating a total of 298 points. DeRozan secured 272 points, including 34 first-place votes.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the talented player from the Oklahoma City Thunder, secured the third position with 160 points, including 11 first-place votes.

Curry's exceptional performance in clutch situations propelled him to the top spot. He led the league with 189 points in such scenarios, defined as possessions in the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the margin is five points or fewer.

Curry showcased remarkable shooting skills, with an overall shooting percentage of 49.6%, a 3-point shooting percentage of 45.7%, and an impressive free-throw shooting percentage of 95.1% in clutch situations.

Having completed his 15th NBA season, Curry, a future Hall of Famer and two-time league MVP, averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. Despite his remarkable individual performance, the Warriors were unable to progress beyond the Western Conference play-in round.
