Stephens ousted in Hobart, Ostapenko overcomes Cirstea in Adelaide

The Chinese world number 73 fought valiantly against her opponent for nearly three hours, ultimately securing a memorable victory by winning the third set tie-break.
After splitting the first two sets, Yuan managed to break Stephens when the American was serving for the match at 6-5.
Although Stephens initially led 5-4 in the tie-break, she couldn't maintain her advantage and was eliminated from the tournament.
Yuan expressed her joy and excitement at the win, acknowledging Stephens as a Grand Slam champion and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to play against her.
In a separate match, former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin started her campaign at the Melbourne Park warm-up event with a convincing 6-3, 6-3 victory over Greet Minnen of Belgium.
Kenin displayed great resilience by saving all three break points she faced during the match. She will now face Daria Saville in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, in the first round of the Adelaide International, sixth seed Jelena Ostapenko overcame a slow start to defeat Sorana Cirstea 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Ostapenko, who reached the quarter-finals at the Brisbane International last week, took nearly two hours to secure the win at the Australian Open tune-up event.
This victory provided some satisfaction for Ostapenko, as Cirstea had defeated her at Wimbledon the previous year. Despite facing a 5-2 deficit in the final set, Ostapenko managed to recover and serve for the match.
Although she faced some challenges, including missing two match points at 5-3, she ultimately sealed the victory with her sixth ace.
In another surprising result, Laura Siegemund, a member of the Germany team that recently won the United Cup title, caused an upset by defeating world number 14 Liudmila Samsonova 6-7(1), 6-4, 6-4.
Lastly, Denis Shapovalov made his return to the tour after last year's Wimbledon, but unfortunately suffered a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Sebastian Ofner at the Auckland Classic.
