Steve Kerr signs multi-year contract extension with Golden State Warriors

The team made an announcement on Tuesday that Steve Kerr (58), the head coach of the Golden State Warriors, has agreed to a multi-year contract extension.
The financial details of the agreement between the Warriors and Kerr were not disclosed, but according to ESPN, the new two-year deal will make Kerr the highest-paid head coach in the league, earning an annual salary of $17.5 million.
Kerr's tenure with the Warriors has been highly successful, leading the team to four NBA championships in his 10 seasons. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the current season.
Warriors co-executive chairman and CEO Joe Lacob expressed his excitement about Kerr's contract extension, stating, "We're thrilled that Coach Kerr will continue to lead our team in the coming years. This extension is well-deserved, considering the immense role Steve has played in our success over the last decade."
Lacob further praised Kerr's accomplishments, highlighting his impressive resume as both a player and coach. He emphasized Kerr's exceptional management skills, integrity, and championship pedigree, making him an ideal leader for the team.
Currently, the Warriors hold a record of 29-27 and are in 10th place in the Western Conference. They are on track to participate in the play-in tournament. The team's most recent NBA title was two years ago, following a successful run from 2014-15 to 2017-18, where they won three championships in four years.
Kerr's coaching career began with the Warriors, and he has achieved a winning percentage of .654 (502-265), which ranks as the fifth highest in NBA history.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Kerr stated, "I'm thrilled to continue my partnership with this great franchise for the past 10 years. I want to express my gratitude to those who have entrusted me to coach our team, including Joe Lacob, Peter Guber, and the entire ownership group. Additionally, I want to thank my exceptional coaching staff and all the incredible players who have represented the Warriors during this decade."
I have been incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such talented and high-character players throughout my coaching career. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with the team and the entire organization as we navigate the thrilling challenges of the upcoming season and beyond.
