Suns owner says Kevin Durant is staying in Phoenix to compete for title

Suns owner Mat Ishbia (44) made a significant announcement on Wednesday, dismissing the "drama" surrounding Phoenix trading Kevin Durant (35) as mere fiction. Ishbia took to social media to address various reports and TV discussions linking Durant to teams like the Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls.
On NBA Draft night, Ishbia expressed his excitement for the event, acknowledging the mix of accurate and inaccurate storylines circulating.
He emphasized Phoenix's admiration for Durant and their pursuit of a championship this season with the team they have.
ESPN reported the Rockets' interest in Durant, while also mentioning their potential interest in Devin Booker if the Suns decide to make him available.
Durant, known for his scoring prowess, averaged 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and five assists per game last season, marking his 17th year in the league since being drafted in 2007.
Having played 83 regular-season games with the Suns, Durant is eligible for a lucrative one-year extension for the 2026-27 season. He joined Phoenix in 2022 after a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, which involved players, picks, and swaps.
The Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, Cam Johnson, and multiple first-round picks to acquire Durant.
