Super League Revamp: Organizers Submit Plans for 96-Team ‘Unify League’

Promoters of the controversial Super League have unveiled fresh plans for a revamped competition, now renamed the “Unify League”, featuring 96 teams divided into four leagues. The format will span from September to April, culminating in a knockout phase starting at the quarter-finals stage.
A22 Sports Management, the driving force behind the project, confirmed they submitted the proposal to FIFA and UEFA for “official recognition,” citing last year’s European Court of Justice (ECJ) ruling as grounds for the league’s legitimacy.
The revised model promises an inclusive, merit-based qualification system tied to annual domestic performances. In addition, organizers announced plans to stream matches live for free via a dedicated platform, a move aimed at alleviating rising subscription costs for fans.
A22 CEO Bernd Reichart emphasized that the proposal addresses key challenges in football:
“Our extensive engagement with key stakeholders revealed pressing challenges including increasing subscription costs for fans, an overloaded player calendar, insufficient investment in women’s football, and dissatisfaction with the format and governance of current pan-European competitions.”
The announcement marks another attempt to reshape European football’s landscape, sparking debates around its structure, inclusivity, and potential impact on existing UEFA competitions.
