Swiatek cruises into US Open quarter-finals after win over Samsonova

Iga Swiatek, aged 23, advanced to the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open on Monday by defeating Liudmila Samsonova, 25, with a score of 6-4, 6-1 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The top seed maintained her impeccable performance throughout the Flushing Meadows tournament.
As the sole remaining former women's champion, Swiatek has yet to lose a set in New York and, in her 100th Grand Slam match, she conceded only four points on her first serve.
Samsonova, seeded 16th, aimed for her inaugural Grand Slam quarter-final but struggled to find her rhythm, failing to create a single break point against the Polish player.
Swiatek's next opponent will be American Jessica Pegula, whom she previously defeated in the quarter-finals two years ago.
"She possesses a rather challenging playing style, necessitating that one prepares their legs and anticipates longer rallies, as well as some vigorous exchanges," Swiatek remarked regarding Pegula.
"It is certainly going to be a challenge."
Samsonova managed to fend off two break points in the fourth game but could not withstand the precise play of Swiatek, who broke the Russian's serve to love in the 10th game.
After falling behind 0-3 in the second set, Samsonova resisted three break points in the fourth game but ultimately surrendered the break to Swiatek due to a double fault.
Swiatek concluded the match on her second match point with agile play at the net, as Samsonova sent a backhand out of bounds.
The French Open champion, who opted out of the Toronto preparatory event, expressed that she is beginning to find her rhythm in New York.
"Initially, it was challenging to establish a rhythm, particularly since we prioritized recovery over practice leading up to the Grand Slams," she stated.
"I am certainly feeling progressively better each day."
