Swiatek defeats Potapova to reach French Open quarters

World number one Iga Swiatek continued her dominant run towards a fourth French Open title by defeating former junior rival Anastasia Potapova in a swift 6-0, 6-0 victory in just 40 minutes to advance to the quarter-finals at Roland Garros on Sunday.
Potapova, experiencing the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career, faced a relentless Swiatek who controlled the match entirely, leaving the Russian with minimal opportunities to score points.
Swiatek's superiority was evident as Potapova managed to win only 10 points throughout the match, extending Swiatek's clay win streak to 16 in the quickest match of her professional career.
Although Potapova had previously defeated Swiatek in junior competitions, the tables turned in their professional encounter, showcasing Swiatek's growth and development as a player.
Reflecting on the match, Swiatek acknowledged the change in dynamics from their junior days and focused on her progress and dedication to reach her current position.
Despite Potapova's occasional attempts to challenge Swiatek, the top seed's exceptional performance from both the baseline and the net proved too much for the Russian to handle, resulting in a swift victory for Swiatek in the first set.
While the crowd rallied behind Potapova, Swiatek's composure and skill on the court secured her a well-deserved win, showcasing her prowess and determination in the tournament.
Swiatek mentioned having a teammate who is a sailor, which has given her some knowledge about the wind.
Consequently, she managed to secure her sixth break of serve, leading to Potapova's defeat and her swift departure from the court.
In the upcoming quarter-finals, Swiatek will be up against Marketa Vondrousova, who defeated Serbian qualifier Olga Danilovic 6-4, 6-2.
