Swiatek focusing on the positives despite tough Australian Open semi-final defeat

Five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek, aged 23, saw her aspirations of reaching her inaugural Australian Open final come to an end on Thursday, as she was defeated by American Madison Keys, 29.
Despite the setback, the Polish player expressed optimism about her future, emphasizing her youth and potential for growth.
Swiatek had a match point at 6-5 in the third set but was unable to capitalize, allowing Keys to recover and ultimately win the match with a score of 5-7, 6-1, 7-6(8). Nevertheless, Swiatek maintained a positive outlook.
"My game relies on solidity and intensity, as well as control, but today I struggled to manage the match's dynamics, and she played with great intensity," Swiatek stated in an interview with Reuters.
"Nonetheless, I am still young and have much to learn. There are various aspects of my game that I can improve, and I will strive to do so next year."
Keys marks the second American opponent to defeat Swiatek in an Australian Open semi-final, following Danielle Collins' victory over her in 2022.
Swiatek acknowledged that she made an excessive number of errors against Keys on Rod Laver Arena and expressed her desire to learn from the experience.
"I found it challenging to make composed decisions in a timely manner," she noted.
"It is difficult to pinpoint exactly what went awry, as I recognize that I could have served better, but I wouldn't attribute my loss to a single factor."
With this defeat, Swiatek also relinquished her opportunity to reclaim the world number one ranking, ensuring that the defending champion, Aryna Sabalenka, will retain her position for the time being.
When asked by reporters about the emotional impact of failing to convert the match point, missing out on her first final in Melbourne, and losing the chance to regain the top ranking, Swiatek responded, "You have to experience that to understand."
