Swiatek keeps winning in United Cup as Poland reach quarter-finals

Swiatek and Hurkacz dominated Sorribes Tormo and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (24) in the mixed doubles decider, winning 6-0, 6-0. This victory secured their position as the top seeds and Group A winners in the 18-nation event, which offers a prize money of $10 million.

"I'm delighted to have Hubi as my partner in mixed doubles," expressed world number one Swiatek. Her impressive performance in singles matches, where she has won sets without conceding any games, has led to the creation of "Iga's Bakery" memes on social media.

In a lighthearted response to the bakery references, Swiatek added, "On Twitter, they joked about closing the bakery on New Year's Eve, but here we are. I'm thrilled with my performance, and Hubi is an excellent partner for mixed doubles."

Earlier in the tournament, Swiatek's victory over Sorribes Tormo helped Poland make a comeback against Spain after Davidovich Fokina had given his team the lead with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Hurkacz.

Meanwhile, Casper Ruud showcased his readiness for the Australian Open by leading Norway to a 2-1 victory over Croatia in Sydney. Ruud defeated Borna Coric 6-4, 6-1, leveling the tie after Donna Vekic had defeated Malene Helgo 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Ruud then partnered with Ulrikke Eikeri to secure a win against Vekic and Ivan Dodig, triumphing 6-2, 3-6, 10-7.

In Group C, Australia secured their spot in the quarterfinals alongside Poland. Matthew Ebden and Storm Hunter defeated Americans Jessica Pegula and Rajeev Ram 6-3, 6-1, claiming the top position in the group. Alex de Minaur's 6-4, 6-2 victory over Taylor Fritz set the hosts on the path to victory, while Pegula's win against Ajla Tomljanovic brought the defending champions, the United States, back into contention.

In a thrilling encounter, France emerged victorious over Germany with a score of 2-1. Caroline Garcia and Edouard Roger-Vasselin fought back from match points down to defeat Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev 7-6, 2-6, 12-10.

Garcia expressed her satisfaction with their performance, stating, "We maintained our composure and remained highly concentrated." She showcased her resilience by defeating Kerber 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 in her first match of the season, while Alexander Zverev secured a victory over Adrian Mannarino with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, giving Germany the lead.
