Taylor Fritz triumphs in delayed match to advance to the Shanghai Masters third round

World number seven Taylor Fritz (26) successfully advanced to the third round of the Shanghai Masters on Monday, following a two-day suspension of his match against France's Terence Atmane (22) due to rain.

Resuming play at 4-3 in the first set, Fritz triumphed over the 161st-ranked Atmane with a score of 7-6(4), 7-6(5).

"I thought he performed exceptionally well, and had I not been at my best... I could have easily lost that match," Fritz remarked.

"I maintained my focus and played consistently during crucial moments."

Fritz is set to face Japanese qualifier Yosuke Watanuki in the next round.

World number 10 Grigor Dimitrov also concluded a postponed match on Monday, overcoming Belgium's Zizou Bergs with a scoreline of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. The Bulgarian will next compete against Australia's Alexei Popyrin in the third round.

"It's been quite challenging over the past few days," Dimitrov stated.

"However, we must make the best of the circumstances we are presented with."

American Frances Tiafoe eliminated the last Chinese player in the tournament by defeating Zhou Yi 6-2, 6-4.

"(Zhou) played well; it may have appeared one-sided, but the second set was quite challenging," Tiafoe commented after his victory.

In the third round, Tiafoe will encounter Russian Roman Safiullin, whom he referred to as a "super dark horse."

"He has the potential to defeat many players... His season has had its ups and downs, but he is certainly capable," Tiafoe added.

Nine second-round matches were either delayed or rescheduled due to rain over the weekend.

The inclement weather persisted on Monday, further disrupting the schedule and leading to the suspension of play on outside courts.
