Born in Italy while his father, Mazinho, was playing for Lecce, Thiago comes from a footballing family background. His brother Rafinha, a Brazil international born in Barcelona, currently plays in Saudi Arabia.
Thiago began his professional career with Barcelona in 2009, achieving numerous titles including LaLiga championships, the 2011 Champions League, and the Club World Cup.
He then moved to Bayern Munich, where he secured the Bundesliga title every season during his seven-year tenure. His successful spell in Munich also saw him win the Club World Cup in 2013 and the Champions League in 2020.
Following his time at Bayern, Thiago spent four years at Liverpool, winning the FA Cup and reaching a third Champions League final.
Representing Spain, Thiago won European under-17 and under-20 championships, earning 46 senior caps between 2011 and 2021.
