Timberwolves power pass Golden State Warriors 116-110

In a recent address to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Coach Chris Finch emphasized the importance of continual improvement, urging his players to focus on refining their skills even during victorious moments. This mindset proved crucial as the Timberwolves secured their sixth consecutive win, overpowering the Golden State Warriors with a final score of 116-110 on Sunday night.
The standout performance of Anthony Edwards, who notched an impressive 33 points, contributed significantly to Minnesota's success. Karl-Anthony Towns also played a pivotal role, scoring 21 points and securing a season-best 14 rebounds in a game held in San Francisco, the first of two consecutive matchups between the teams.
Despite the triumph, Coach Finch remained focused on the team's growth potential, highlighting areas for improvement. He remarked, “We can play a lot better... When you get outrebounded and you turn it over and you don’t make the easy offensive play, there’s a lot of room for growth right there.”
In contrast, the Golden State Warriors faced challenges in containing Minnesota's fast-paced attack. Although Stephen Curry delivered an impressive 38-point performance, the Warriors struggled to keep up due to cold shooting, particularly from beyond the arc, where they managed only 12 out of 43 attempts.
Coach Steve Kerr acknowledged the need for additional scoring contributions from the team, stating, “No question we need some scoring from elsewhere.” Despite Curry's historic achievement of recording 11 straight games with four or more 3-pointers to start the season, the Warriors fell short in this matchup.
The game featured several noteworthy moments, including Curry's buzzer-beating steal and score at the end of the first quarter, providing the Warriors with a narrow lead. However, the Timberwolves took control, outscoring the Warriors in a decisive 35-point third quarter, ultimately securing an 89-73 advantage.
Rudy Gobert played a key role in Minnesota's success, contributing 10 points, 10 rebounds, and a season-high five blocks. Dario Saric and Klay Thompson made significant contributions for the Warriors, but the team faced its third consecutive loss and fourth in the last five games.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to meet again at Chase Center for an In-Season Tournament game on Tuesday night. Coach Kerr expressed anticipation for the rematch, stating, "It is a different feeling in a regular-season game, to be able to go over the tape and play the same team, and be able to make some adjustments. It is more playoff-like.”
