Tom Daley announces retirement after claiming silver at Paris Olympics

Tom Daley, a five-time Olympic medalist in diving from Britain, announced his retirement from the sport on Monday following his participation in the Paris Games, where he secured a silver medal in the men's synchronized 10-meter event alongside Noah Williams.
After taking a hiatus from competitive diving post-Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Daley returned to the sport last year at the encouragement of his elder son. His recent appearance in Paris marked a significant milestone, making him the first British diver to compete in five Olympic Games.
Reflecting on his final competitive dive, Daley expressed, "It was emotional at the end, up there on the platform, knowing it was going to be my last competitive dive," in an interview with British Vogue. He further stated, "But I have to make the decision at some point, and it feels like the right time. It's the right time to call it a day."
Daley, who gained increased recognition after publicly coming out as gay in 2013, previously won the Olympic gold medal in the men's synchronized 10-meter platform event at the Tokyo Games.
In an emotional conversation with the BBC, he remarked, "I'm really happy with how everything's gone. It's always hard when you say goodbye to your sport. Lots of things to process, but I think it's the right time. This year felt like such a bonus, and I got to compete in front of my family, my kids. I got to be flag-bearer. So yeah, bucket list ticked off on every occasion."
