Tottenham 4-1 Newcastle: Richarlison double sees Spurs earn first win in six matches

Richarlison scored twice as Tottenham Hotspur defeated Newcastle United 4-1 to earn their first Premier League victory in six games.

Destiny Udogie also scored his first league goal, and Son Heung-min converted a penalty as Newcastle lost for the second time in a row.

Spurs are now fifth with 30 points, four ahead of seventh-placed Newcastle.

Newcastle almost scored after nine minutes, but Ben Davies got a toe to Anthony Gordon's cross, denying Alexander Isak a simple tap-in.

Udogie gave Spurs the lead in the 26th minute.

Udogie ran into the penalty area after playing the ball to Son down the left and slotted in from the South Korean's low cross.

As Newcastle attempted to respond, Miguel Almiron fired a tame shot at Guglielmo Vicario, but it was Spurs who doubled their lead seven minutes before halftime.

A long crossfield pass caught Kieran Trippier off guard, and after Son dribbled past the Newcastle right-back, he cut the ball back to Richarlison, who swept into the far corner.

On the hour mark, Pedro Porro's superb lofted pass found Richarlison, who brought the ball down before slotting through Martin Dubravka's legs to make it 3-0.

With Spurs on top, Brennan Johnson crashed a shot against the post and Son flashed an effort across goal.

Newcastle's Callum Wilson returned from injury to replace Isak, but it was Spurs who added a fourth goal with five minutes remaining.

After being brought down by Dubravka for a penalty, Son slotted his spot-kick into the bottom-left corner for his 10th league goal of the season.

Dubravka saved a shot from substitute Oliver Skipp, and Son came close to adding another as the home side continued to create chances at will, finishing with 23 shots.

Newcastle did score a late consolation goal through Joelinton, who finished from Wilson's square pass in the first minute of second-half stoppage time.
