Tottenham Hotspur claimed the top spot of the Premier League despite playing with 10 men, defeating Luton with a 1-0 scoreline on a thrilling Saturday.

Micky van de Ven was the hero for Spurs, finding the back of the net in the 52nd minute at Kenilworth Road. This victory extended Tottenham's unbeaten streak to eight games in the Premier League. However, their triumph was marred by the first-half dismissal of Yves Bissouma.

Tottenham's win propelled them two points ahead of the defending champions, Manchester City, who were scheduled to face Arsenal the following Sunday.

The winning moment was crafted by James Maddison, who dazzled with a twisting run inside the box before delivering a precise cross for van de Ven to slot home from close range.

For Luton, this defeat marked their sixth loss in the Premier League this season, following their promotion to the top tier of English soccer.

Richarlison had early opportunities to put Tottenham in the lead, but he squandered both chances. Firstly, he fired off target from a promising position, and then Luton's goalkeeper, Thomas Kaminski, thwarted the Brazilian forward's attempts with his feet.

Pedro Porro also missed a golden opportunity, and Kaminski showcased his brilliance with a fingertip save to deny Dejan Kulusevski.

The turning point of the match arrived when Yves Bissouma was booked twice in quick succession by referee John Brooks. The second yellow card was awarded for simulation, leading to Bissouma's sending off.

Before van de Ven's decisive goal, Elijah Adebayo had a chance to put Luton ahead, but it was van de Ven's first goal in English soccer that made all the difference. Maddison orchestrated the play, collecting Kulusevski's short corner and executing a brilliant spin to evade Alfie Doughty before providing the assist to van de Ven.
