Tottenham Grabs Dramatic 2-1 Win Against Liverpool with Matip's Stoppage-Time Own-Goal

Tottenham secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday, courtesy of an own-goal by Liverpool's Joel Matip in the dying moments of stoppage time.
The match took an intense turn when Liverpool had to play with nine men due to two red cards. Curtis Jones was sent off in the 26th minute for a reckless challenge on Yves Bissouma. Liverpool then faced the final 20 minutes plus stoppage time with nine players after substitute Diogo Jota received two quick yellow cards.
Liverpool, despite being shorthanded, seemed poised for a draw until Matip accidentally turned Pedro Porro's low cross into his own net in the sixth minute of added time.
Earlier, Tottenham took the lead in the 36th minute when Son Heung-min capitalized on a pass from Richarlison to tap in his sixth goal of the season. However, two minutes before that, Liverpool had a goal by Luis Diaz disallowed for offside.
Liverpool responded just before halftime when Virgil van Dijk's header was controlled by Cody Gakpo, who turned and fired a goal past Guglielmo Vicario.
The match became even more challenging for Liverpool when Jota was sent off with two yellow cards in quick succession, first for a late tackle and then for another foul.
Despite being down to nine players, Liverpool initially held off Tottenham's attacks, and Richarlison had a chance that was saved by goalkeeper Alisson in added time. Liverpool also had counterattack opportunities but failed to capitalize, ultimately leading to Matip's unfortunate own-goal that decided the match.
With this win, Tottenham moved up to second place in the Premier League, surpassing Liverpool. Liverpool would have gone top of the standings with a win, but Manchester City's surprising 2-1 loss to Wolves earlier in the day shifted the dynamics in the league.
