Tottenham Knock Out Manchester City to Reach Carabao Cup Quarterfinals

Tottenham is set to face Manchester United in the highlight match of the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw, which was conducted following the conclusion of Wednesday night's matches. This marks the first all-Premier League quarter-final stage of the League Cup in 14 years, as Preston was the last EFL club to be eliminated from the tournament.

Manchester United, who scored five goals against Leicester in Ruud van Nistelrooy's debut as interim manager, will take on Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Van Nistelrooy, a club legend, was appointed to the interim position after the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on Monday due to a poor start to the season.

Spurs handed Manchester City their first defeat of the season with a convincing 2-1 victory in north London, against a City side that rested several key players.

Defending champions and all-time record winners Liverpool will meet Southampton after narrowly defeating Brighton 3-2 at the Amex, with contributions from Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz.

Gakpo has emerged as a significant threat in the League Cup, having scored all four of his goals this season in the competition, in addition to netting four for Liverpool during their successful campaign at Wembley against Chelsea last year.

Two-time champions Arsenal will host Crystal Palace, while Newcastle will welcome Brentford in the remaining fixture.

The quarter-finals are scheduled to take place during the week commencing December 16, 2024.
