Toyota Rejoins Formula 1 as Technical Partner with Haas

Toyota has officially announced its return to Formula 1 after a 15-year hiatus, entering into a technical partnership with the American team Haas.

The Japanese automaker participated in Formula 1 for eight seasons before exiting at the conclusion of 2009, achieving a total of 13 podium finishes but failing to secure a Grand Prix victory.

Currently positioned seventh in the 10-team constructors' standings, Haas stated that Toyota would offer "design, technical, and manufacturing services."

The team confirmed that their vehicles will display Toyota branding during the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, later this month.

Akio Toyoda, chairman of Toyota, expressed that he has "finally returned to being an ordinary older gentleman who has a passion for cars."

He remarked, "I believe that, deep down, this ordinary older car enthusiast Akio Toyoda has always felt remorse for having hindered - by withdrawing from F1 - the aspirations of Japanese youth to drive the fastest cars in the world."

Toyoda also maintained that his choice to leave the sport in 2009 "was not incorrect."

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu conveyed his "immense excitement" about collaborating with Toyota.

"Having a global leader in the automotive industry support and collaborate with our organization, while aiming to enhance and expedite their own technical and engineering capabilities, represents a partnership with clear advantages for both parties," he stated.

Haas has secured French driver Esteban Ocon for the next season on a multi-year contract.

Ocon will partner with 19-year-old British driver Oliver Bearman.
