Trent Alexander-Arnold doubtful for EFL Cup final after injury vs PSG

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is a significant concern for the upcoming League Cup final against Newcastle United this weekend, following an injury sustained during Tuesday's Champions League round of 16 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, as stated by manager Arne Slot.
PSG triumphed over Liverpool 4-1 in a penalty shootout at Anfield, securing their place in the quarter-finals after winning the second leg 1-0.
The 26-year-old Alexander-Arnold was substituted in the 73rd minute for Jarell Quansah, with reports from British media indicating that he has sustained an ankle injury.
"(Trent) had to come off. That’s never a good sign,” Slot said.
"And from what I heard from people that saw the images or how he got injured, it did not look very good. So I would be surprised if he is available for Sunday."
Ibrahima Konate, playing as a centre-back, exited the match with a limp during the second half of extra time; however, Slot indicated that this was likely a result of fatigue.
The injury to Alexander-Arnold poses a significant setback for England, who are scheduled to face Albania on March 21 and Latvia three days thereafter in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
