Truth will come out after doping ban appeal - Simona Halep

Simona Halep, the former Wimbledon and French Open champion at the age of 32, expressed her optimism about making a swift comeback to tennis. This came after she concluded her three-day appeal hearing at the highest court in sports, following a doping suspension that had the potential to prematurely terminate her career.

Halep expressed her confidence in the upcoming court proceedings, stating, "I had the opportunity to present my defense, and I firmly believe that the truth will prevail and the court date will arrive soon."

She made these remarks outside the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Since October 2022, the Romanian tennis player has been under provisional suspension after testing positive for roxadustat, a banned substance that enhances red blood cell production, during the US Open that year.

In addition, she faced another doping charge last year due to irregularities in her athlete biological passport (ABP), which monitors various blood parameters.

Halep's lawyer, Howard Jacobs, confirmed that her arguments were heard by CAS, but the timing of the court's ruling remains uncertain. Halep has attributed her positive test at the U.S.

Open to contaminated licensed supplements and has accused the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) of targeting her for an ABP violation based on the experts' knowledge of her identity.

An independent tribunal acknowledged Halep's claim of consuming a contaminated supplement but concluded that the amount she ingested could not have resulted in the concentration of roxadustat detected in her sample.

Halep has expressed concern that a four-year ban, if upheld, would likely mark the end of her career.
