Tyrese Maxey hits 50 points, leads Philadelphia 76ers to 8th straight win

Tyrese Maxey showcased his prowess by achieving a career-high 50 points, steering the Philadelphia 76ers to their eighth consecutive victory as they triumphed over the Indiana Pacers 137-126 on Sunday night. Accompanied by Joel Embiid, who contributed 37 points, the 76ers now boast an impressive 8-1 record, marking their best start in nine games since the 2000-01 season.
Maxey's incredible night included a 20-for-32 shooting display, seven rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. This remarkable feat follows his previous high of 44 points against Toronto on October 28, 2022. The climax of Maxey's stellar performance was a 32-foot step-back 3-pointer with just over a minute left in the game, prompted by a strategic play orchestrated by "The Franchise" himself, Joel Embiid.
Embiid, acknowledging Maxey's pivotal role, expressed his trust in the team's cohesion, highlighting the importance of Tyrese in closing out the game. Despite missing Kelly Oubre Jr. due to a hit-and-run incident, the 76ers rallied together, sending their injured teammate a video of the post-game celebration to lift his spirits.
While Tyrese Haliburton led the Pacers with 25 points and Myles Turner contributed 22, the 76ers, initially trailing by 19 points in the first half, reclaimed control with an 18-6 run in the fourth quarter. The victory sets the stage for a rematch between the two teams at the Wells Fargo Center in the upcoming NBA In-Season Tournament on Tuesday night.
Reflecting on the game, Pacers coach Rick Carlisle acknowledged the challenge posed by one of the league's top teams, expressing a commitment to making necessary adjustments. With Maxey now averaging 28.6 points in his role as the floor leader following James Harden's trade, the 76ers are poised for continued success as they anticipate the rematch with the Pacers in the tournament.
