United States seal spot in Davis Cup Final Eight after win over Slovakia

The United States secured their place in the knockout stage of the Davis Cup Final 8 with one match remaining, having triumphed over Slovakia in their second Group C encounter in Zuhai on Friday.

Mackenzie McDonald achieved victory against Lukas Klein with a score of 6-4, 6-3 in the opening singles match of the day, followed by Brandon Nakashima's straight sets win over Jozef Kovalik, which established an insurmountable 2-0 lead for the Americans.

This marked the second group victory for Bob Bryan's team, which is currently without several top singles players, including US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz. They had previously defeated Chile with a score of 3-0.

The US victory also ensured that Germany qualified for the Final Eight, scheduled to take place in Malaga in November.

Germany and the US are set to compete in the final group match on Saturday, with the top position in the group on the line.

A total of sixteen nations have participated in the Group Stage Finals, which are being held across four cities, with the top two teams from each group advancing to Malaga.

Later on Friday, the reigning champions Italy will aim for their second win in Group A against Belgium in Bologna, while Britain will face Argentina in Group D in Manchester, seeking a victory that would secure their progression.

In another match of the day, Spain will compete against France in Group B in Valencia, where a win would guarantee their advancement to the Final Eight.
