US Open 2025 sets record $5million prize for Singles Champions as total payout reaches $90million

The 2025 US Open will set a new benchmark in tennis history, awarding a record-breaking $5 million to both the men’s and women’s singles champions. The total prize pool across all events has jumped by 20% to nearly $90 million, making it the largest player compensation in tennis history.
The U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) confirmed on Wednesday that the tournament, scheduled to start on August 19with a new mixed doubles event, will offer the most lucrative rewards yet in the sport. The mixed doubles winners will claim $1 million, further adding to the financial incentives.
Singles Finals set for Record Paydays
This year’s singles champions will walk away with $5 million each, a 39% increase from last year’s $3.6 million. The runners-up will earn $2.5 million, while semifinalists will collect $1.26 million, a 26% increase from 2024.
This surpasses the previous all-time record of $3.85 million for singles winners, set in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic led to reduced payouts.
In addition to singles, doubles champions in both the men’s and women’s draws will earn $1 million, the most ever at the US Open. The qualifying tournament prize pool has also risen by 10% to $8 million, ensuring that players at every level benefit from the increase.
The 2025 prize pool breakdown includes singles, doubles, mixed doubles, wheelchair tennis, and qualifying events.
Why the Increase?
The decision to boost payouts follows months of discussions between top players and Grand Slam organizers. In March, 20 leading stars including Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, and Jannik Sinner, signed a letter requesting a larger share of Grand Slam revenues and greater involvement in decision-making.
With Wimbledon 2025 offering around $73 million and $4 million to its singles champions, the US Open’s $90 million total and $5 million winner’s prize significantly raise the stakes.
When does the US Open start?
For the first time in its history, the US Open singles competition will begin on a Sunday (August 24), extending the main draw from 14 days to 15. This change is expected to provide more rest days for players and enhance match scheduling for global audiences.
Major Investments in Facilities
The USTA has also announced an $800 million renovation project for Arthur Ashe Stadium and other facilities, described as the “largest single investment” in the tournament’s history. These upgrades aim to improve both player amenities and the fan experience.
