UWCL: Barcelona seal progress into quarter-finals; Man City, Bayern and Arsenal win

Barcelona secured the final quarter-final spot in the Women's Champions League on Thursday, as Ewa Pajor scored twice in a 3-0 triumph over Hammarby in Sweden.

The three-time European champions were already in a strong position before the match, holding a six-point lead over Hammarby in Group D with two games remaining, and boasting a virtually unassailable head-to-head record after their 9-0 victory against the Swedes in October.

This fourth consecutive Champions League win, following an initial defeat to Manchester City, mathematically ensured Barcelona's advancement to the last eight, joining Manchester City, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Lyon, and Wolfsburg in the knockout stage.

"It feels amazing," remarked Fridolina Rolfo, Barcelona's Swedish international, to UEFA.

"I am truly delighted to be here in Sweden and to perform like this, achieving an away victory.

"It feels wonderful; I am pleased to reconnect with my friends and family while playing here in Sweden."

Polish forward Pajor capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the opening goal in the seventh minute.

She extended the visitors' lead five minutes before halftime, as a corner kick was mishandled by multiple defenders and Hammarby goalkeeper Anna Tamminen.

Aitana Bonmati, the Women's Ballon d'Or winner, sealed the victory with a deflected shot that found its way past Tamminen with ten minutes left on the clock.

Group leaders Manchester City maintained their three-point cushion over Barcelona ahead of their upcoming match at the Olympic Stadium next week, following a 2-0 win against St. Pölten.

However, City captain Alex Greenwood was taken off on a stretcher due to a suspected knee injury.

Earlier, Arsenal kept their hopes alive of overtaking Bayern for the top position in Group C with a 3-1 victory at Valerenga, where England striker Alessia Russo scored two goals.

Bayern remained one point ahead of the Gunners before their encounter in London, having decisively defeated Juventus 4-0.
