UWCL: Lyon thrash Bayern Munich to reach Champions League semi-finals

Eight-time Champions League winners Olympique Lyonnais delivered a dominant second-half performance to secure a resounding 4-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the second leg of their quarter-final clash on Wednesday, sealing a commanding 6-1 aggregate win.
Lyon fielded the same lineup that triumphed 2-0 in the first leg in Munich, while Bayern manager Alexander Straus opted for five changes in an attempt to turn the tie around. The German side started aggressively, pushing forward in search of an early breakthrough, and their efforts paid off when Klara Bühl opened the scoring 12 minutes before halftime. Bühl combined with Momoko Tanikawa before driving into the area and firing a low shot past Christiane Endler, the ball ricocheting in off the far post—just the second goal Lyon had conceded in the competition this season.
"Honestly, it's just not good enough from us," Lyon midfielder Lindsey Heaps admitted at halftime. "It's a difficult one, they come in with no pressure on their back and they go for goal. We just need to be better and focused."
Lyon responded immediately, restoring their advantage within seconds of the restart as Melchie Dumornay headed home from a Kadidiatou Diani cross. The French champions piled on the pressure, capitalizing on a defensive lapse in the 54th minute when Giulia Gwinn lost control of the ball inside her own area, allowing Diani to slot it into the net.
Six minutes later, Lyon effectively put the tie to bed, with Tabitha Chawinga finishing off another Diani delivery from close range. Bayern struggled to contain the relentless attacking play, and only a series of fine saves from Maria Luisa Grohs prevented Damaris Egurrola and Selma Bacha from adding to the scoreline. However, the visitors could not deny Lyon’s attacking prowess, as Ada Hegerberg netted a fourth goal in stoppage time to complete the rout.
Lyon now awaits the winner of the Arsenal vs. Real Madrid quarter-final, with the Spanish side holding a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.
