UWCL Round-up: Barca, Lyon stay perfect; Benfica edge past Frankfurt

UEFA Women's Champions League holders Barcelona and eight-time winners Lyon both moved on to nine points from three group games, while Benfica won crucially against Eintracht Frankfurt and the game between St. Pölten and Slavia Prague went scoreless.

Here's how the action unfolded.

Rosengård 0-6 Barcelona

Scorers: Wik 16′ (OG), Paralluelo 37′, Guijarro 44′, Bonmati 62′, Caldentey 73′ (P), Fernández 90+2′

Reigning champions Barcelona scored six goals against Rosengrd to remain undefeated in the UWCL group stages despite the absence of Alexia Putellas (injured).

Jessica Wik turned a cross from Aitana Bonmati into her own net to give the visitors the lead.

Then, while Rosengård caused Barcelona goalkeeper Sandra Panos to sweat at times, the Spanish club eventually found their rhythm.

Salma Paralluelo doubled the lead from inside the box before setting up Patri Guijarro from distance just before halftime.

Bonmati chipped in a cross into the box from a tight angle, Mariona Caldentey added to the misery from the penalty spot, and Martina Fernández added a sixth off the bench.

Six goals from six different players helped Barcelona extend their unbeaten streak to ten games in a row.

Meanwhile, Rosengård suffered their third consecutive defeat.

Benfica 1-0 Eintracht Frankfurt

Scorer: Alidou 71′

In the first Women's Champions League game at Estádio do SL Benfica, Marie Alidou's goal 19 minutes from time moved the Eagles three points clear of Frankfurt in second place.

The Canadian came close in the first half, and Lara Prašnikar shot wide after the break.

But Alidou sealed victory with a superb volley, delighting a club-record European crowd of 10,785 and leaving four-time champions Frankfurt desperate for victory in the return match next week.

Lyon 3-1 Brann

Scorers: Diaani 6′, 48′, Hegerberg 23′; Kielland 73′

Lyon continued their unbeaten run in the group stage with a convincing win over Brann. In France, it was one-way traffic as the record title winners won by 24 shots to seven.

Kadidiatou Diani scored in the blink of an eye after picking up a misplaced pass, taking a few strides into the box, and striking into the far left side of the net.

Ada Hegerberg, the competition's all-time leading scorer, added another goal after stealing the ball from a defender and rolling it home. She now has 61 goals in 64 games.

Diani scored her second after the break when Lyon went on the counterattack, and her pace proved too much for them.

Sonia Bompastor may be disappointed that her team did not score more against second-place Brann and also failed to keep a clean sheet.

Justine Kvaleng Kielland pulled one back after being left unmarked in the box. Lyon had not conceded a goal in the group stage since October 2022.

St. Pölten 0-0 Slavia Praha

St. Pölten and Slavia Prague both failed to win their first game in Group B, drawing a goalless draw.

Despite the visitors edging the first half, St. Pölten had the best chance when Melanie Brunnthaler raced through one-on-one, but her effort hit the post.

Carina Schlüter, the visitors' goalkeeper, kept them in the game with a string of excellent saves in the second half, but nobody could break through. Both teams are two points behind Brann.
