Verstappen hoping to avoid repeat of 2021 nightmare in duel with Norris

Max Verstappen (26) will be aiming to steer clear of a repeat of his 2021 nightmare this weekend as he faces off against Lando Norris (24) in the upcoming round of their Formula 1 title battle at the British Grand Prix.
Shortly after a contentious crash disrupted both drivers' races at the Austrian Grand Prix, resulting in George Russell of Mercedes claiming victory, the three-time champion from Red Bull and the contender from McLaren will once again cross paths.
The anticipation of more intense wheel-to-wheel racing and the possibility of contact at the high-speed Silverstone circuit, with a home crowd in attendance, inevitably brings back memories of a similar situation in 2021.
Back then, an unyielding and determined Verstappen found himself in the hospital following a first-lap collision at the fast Copse corner with British icon and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
Although circumstances have evolved, the resemblance to the past is concerning - two competitive drivers unwilling to give an inch, despite Verstappen being deemed responsible for their heated clash last Sunday.
While he has acknowledged the "mistakes" made by himself and Red Bull, Verstappen has yet to issue a public apology for his aggressive driving that prompted McLaren team principal Andrea Stella to question the integrity of Red Bull's Christian Horner.
Stella has also emphasized his opinions on the FIA's role in allowing Verstappen to avoid punishment for his involvement in several intense clashes with Hamilton three years ago. These remarks have heightened the excitement for this weekend's race, transforming it into a 'high stakes' showdown with more than just points at stake.
"Austria did not yield the outcome we had hoped for, and there were numerous lessons to be learned from the race that both myself and the team can analyze and strive to improve upon," Verstappen stated.
"There were errors during the race that had significant consequences for us. As this is the final race of a triple-header, we aim to return to Silverstone with a fighting spirit."
'We are determined to compete'
For many teams, Silverstone is considered a 'home' race, and Stella is optimistic that this time Verstappen will not defend as aggressively and will adhere to the regulations to ensure an authentic racing spectacle.
Norris has confirmed that he will not alter his tactics or approach after reviewing last Sunday's race. "I was engaged in a battle, and that is what we desire. We are determined to compete.
"We do not wish to complain. We do not want the race to conclude as it did. Both of us are eager to win, and we will push ourselves to the limit."
In addition to Norris, Russell and Hamilton are also aiming for a home victory in what is expected to be a closely contested race involving the top four teams as the season reaches its midpoint, marking the 12th race out of 24.
Hamilton has secured a record eight victories at Silverstone, where Verstappen emerged victorious last year. He will be looking to end a 56-race winless streak dating back to 2021 with a significant triumph in the 75th edition of the British Grand Prix.
Sainz mentioned that Silverstone is known for its high speed, so they need to make progress. He added that they will do everything they can to become more competitive.
Sainz and Leclerc, along with Mercedes, Norris, Piastri, and the two Red Bulls, are expected to be strong contenders. All eyes will be on Verstappen, who currently leads the championship by 81 points, as Red Bull aims to overcome their recent challenges on and off the track.
Verstappen's reputation, his lead in the title race, and his relationship with Norris are all at stake.
