VfL Bochum 1-1 Bayer Leverkusen: Miyoshi's late leveller earns struggling hosts draw against Leverkusen

Koji Miyoshi scored in the 89th minute to earn struggling VfL Bochum a 1-1 Bundesliga draw with visiting champions Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Leverkusen appeared to be coasting to a 1-0 victory before Miyoshi levelled from close range, giving new Bochum boss Dieter Hecking a good start in his bid to turn the club's season around.

It was Leverkusen's third consecutive draw in the league and fifth in the previous six league games and Bochum's second point in ten outings.

Patrik Schick gave Leverkusen the lead in the 18th minute when Florian Wirtz sent him through with a fantastic ball, which he then threaded through the legs of the Bochum keeper, hitting the post and rolling in.

Bochum were far from overrun, battling hard in defence to close down gaps but lacking a more decisive finish up front until the late equaliser.

Leverkusen blew a two-goal lead against Holstein Kiel last month, eventually drawing 2-2.

The result leaves Leverkusen, who lost 4-0 against Liverpool in the Champions League, in fourth place with 17 points, nine behind leaders Bayern Munich.
