Victor Osimhen left out of Napoli squad for season following failed summer move

Victor Osimhen, aged 25, has not been named in Napoli's official 23-man Serie A roster for the current season, following the unsuccessful attempt to facilitate his transfer from the club.

Osimhen's impressive tally of 26 goals was instrumental in securing Napoli's Scudetto title two seasons ago; however, the situation has since deteriorated. Although the Nigerian forward remains with the team for the time being, he is not included in their strategic plans.

In December of last year, he extended his contract with Napoli, which now binds him to the club until 2026, featuring a reported release clause of 130 million euros.

A month later, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis indicated that Osimhen would depart at the conclusion of the season. Recently, Chelsea and Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli emerged as potential destinations for the player.

Despite ongoing negotiations until the transfer window closed in both Italy and England on Friday, Chelsea reportedly did not meet Osimhen's wage expectations, leading to speculation about a move to Saudi Arabia.

However, Napoli ultimately rejected the offer from Al Ahli, who subsequently acquired Ivan Toney from Brentford for approximately 40 million pounds and secured Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.
