Viktor Gyökeres wins Gerd Muller Trophy

At tonight’s Ballon d’Or Awards, Viktor Gyökeres was crowned the winner of the Gerd Müller Trophy following his extraordinary goalscoring campaign for Sporting Lisbon and Sweden in the 2024/25 season.

The award, previously known as Striker of the Year or Best Striker Award, honours the most prolific scorer across European club and international football. Since its introduction in 2021, it has been named in tribute to legendary German forward Gerd Müller.

Gyökeres’ remarkable season

The Swedish forward lit up Europe with a staggering 54 goals in 52 matches, helping Sporting secure the Primeira Liga and the Taça de Portugal, while also finishing top scorer in the UEFA Nations League.

His consistency and ruthless finishing made him the standout candidate, edging past some of football’s biggest names.
