Vondrousova defeats Danilovic to book her place in French Open quarter-final

Marketa Vondrousova, the Wimbledon champion, put an end to Olga Danilovic's impressive run by defeating her 6-4, 6-2. This victory has secured Vondrousova a spot in the French Open quarter-finals, where she will face the tournament favorite, Iga Swiatek.

Despite a slow start, Vondrousova, who is seeded fifth, managed to turn the tide and dominate the match against the 125th-ranked Danilovic. She showcased her resilience by winning 11 out of the final 13 games.

It is worth noting that Vondrousova has previously faced Swiatek three times and unfortunately, she has been unable to secure a victory in any of those encounters.

Swiatek, the current world number one, is determined to make history by becoming the first woman since Justin Henin in 2005-2007 to win three consecutive French Open titles.

Their previous meeting at the 2020 Roland Garros saw Swiatek overpower Vondrousova, conceding only three games.

This victory marked the beginning of Swiatek's remarkable journey to claim her first Grand Slam title, which she has since followed up with three more.
