WAFCON 2025: Super Falcons drawn with Zambia, Egypt and Malawi

Nigeria’s quest for an 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title now has a clear path. The Super Falcons have been drawn in Group C of the 2026 WAFCON alongside Zambia, Egypt and Malawi, following the official draw for the tournament to be held in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April, 2026.
All of Nigeria’s group-stage matches will be played at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, where the defending champions will look to assert their dominance once again on the continental stage.

A familiar rival in Zambia
One of the standout fixtures in Group C will be Nigeria’s meeting with Zambia’s Copper Queens. It is a repeat of their quarter-final clash from the 2024 edition, where the Super Falcons delivered a commanding 5–0 victory.
Zambia have grown into one of Africa’s most competitive women’s sides in recent years, but Nigeria remain their biggest hurdle. That group match is expected to be one of the highlights of the opening round.
Egypt and Malawi complete the group, both hoping to spring surprises, but Nigeria will enter as clear favourites to reach the knockout phase.
Morocco, South Africa and the Big Names
Host nation Morocco headline Group A, where they will face Algeria, Senegal and Kenya at the Moulay Al Hassan Stadium in Rabat. The Atlas Lionesses have finished runners-up in the last two WAFCON tournaments and will be under intense pressure to finally lift the trophy on home soil.
Group B features former champions South Africa alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Tanzania. All matches in that group will be played at Rabat’s Al Madina Stadium, with Banyana Banyana expected to challenge strongly for a place in the knockout rounds as they try to reclaim the title they won in 2022.
Group D promises plenty of drama, with Ghana and Cameroon drawn together with Mali and Cape Verde. Those matches will take place at the Complexe Sportif de Fès.
World Cup Qualification on the Line
Beyond the continental title, WAFCON 2026 carries even greater importance. The tournament will also serve as Africa’s qualification pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The top four teams will earn tickets to the global showpiece, raising the stakes across every group and knockout match.
For Nigeria, it is not just about defending their crown but also securing a place on the world stage.
