Wagner, Anthony lead Magic to 130-117 victory over Hornets; extends winning streak to seven games

Franz Wagner and Cole Anthony orchestrated a mesmerizing performance, each contributing 30 points to spearhead the Orlando Magic's commanding 130-117 triumph over the Charlotte Hornets. Their stellar display propelled the Magic to an impressive seven-game winning streak, electrifying fans and players alike.

Anthony’s brilliance shone brightest in the fourth quarter, where he orchestrated a phenomenal surge, racking up 17 points. His remarkable performance during this crucial period was instrumental in the Magic's lead soaring to a staggering 16 points. Adding to the spectacle, Paolo Banchero showcased his prowess with 23 points and eight assists, further solidifying the Magic’s dominance on the court.

However, amidst the Hornets' formidable challenge, Miles Bridges emerged as a force, amassing 23 points and 10 rebounds. Unfortunately for Charlotte, their momentum suffered a severe blow as LaMelo Ball sustained an ankle injury, sidelining him for the entire second half. Despite this setback, Terry Rozier, back in action after a nine-game absence due to a groin strain, exhibited his prowess with 22 points and nine assists.

The significance of this victory was not lost on the Magic, marking their longest winning streak since their record-setting nine-game triumph from December 23, 2010, to January 12, 2011. Wagner, displaying unwavering confidence, expressed his belief in extending this streak further, highlighting a shift in mentality that has fueled the team's recent successes.

Anthony echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the team's commitment to maintaining their high standards and unwavering determination. Despite acknowledging that it wasn't their finest performance, he stressed the importance of embracing every win in the competitive NBA landscape.

The absence of Ball didn't deter Orlando, who, led by Anthony, surged ahead to secure a pivotal lead of 95-92 with 10:12 remaining. Anthony's crucial plays, including a 3-point play and an assist to Banchero, ensured Charlotte never narrowed the gap below five points.

While the Hornets exhibited a formidable offensive display, shooting an impressive 59.5% in the first half, Coach Steve Clifford emphasized the team's need for improved defensive efforts in the half court, identifying it as a critical area for growth.

Wagner’s impeccable shooting streak, making his first nine shots with an array of impressive finishes, and Bitadze's five dunks contributed to the Magic's offensive firepower. Impressively, the Magic registered 33 assists on 47 field goals, showcasing their cohesive and unselfish play.

Additionally, Caleb Houstan’s remarkable six-point play, following a flagrant foul, boosted Orlando's lead in the second quarter, marking a pivotal moment in the game.

Looking ahead, the Hornets are set to face New York on Tuesday, while the Magic will host Washington on Wednesday, poised to continue their impressive winning streak.
