Wembanyama's Rough Debut at Madison Square Garden as Knicks Rout Spurs 126-105

Victor Wembanyama, the No. 1 draft pick, had a challenging debut at Madison Square Garden as the New York Knicks dominated the San Antonio Spurs with a 126-105 victory on Wednesday night.

Despite the tough start for Wembanyama, who missed his first seven shots and had more airballs (2) than field goals through three quarters, he managed to salvage his performance in the fourth quarter. The 7-foot-3 player finished with 14 points on 4-for-14 shooting, including eight points in the final quarter.

Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 25 points, followed by RJ Barrett with 24 points and six assists, and Julius Randle contributing 23 points and 16 rebounds. Immanuel Quickley came off the bench to score 19 points, and Mitchell Robinson played a crucial role in the defensive effort against Wembanyama.

Wembanyama, who entered the game as the NBA rookie leader with 19.4 points per game, faced a strong defensive challenge from the Knicks, leading to a learning experience, according to Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Despite the challenges, Wembanyama expressed the special nature of playing at Madison Square Garden, and it's expected that he will continue to improve as he gains more experience in the NBA.

The Spurs, coming off a 152-111 loss to Indiana, struggled to close the gap, and this defeat marked their third consecutive loss. The Knicks, on the other hand, secured their second consecutive win.

The Knicks demonstrated resilience by focusing on their game and sticking together, despite the hype surrounding Wembanyama's debut at the iconic Madison Square Garden. The victory puts the Knicks at a 4-4 record for the season.

Up next, the Spurs will host Minnesota on Friday, while the Knicks will face Charlotte at home on Sunday.
